The Firm

The Firm guarantees a highly specialized service with particular focus on administrative law, labour law, civil law, tax law, and administrative criminal law, adopting a practical approach aimed at achieving rapid and effective solutions.

The Firm undertakes and performs professional assignments for judicial services as well as extrajudicial assistance and consulting on behalf of both Public Administrations and private clients.

The extensive experience gained with both public and private clients enables us to have a multidimensional perspective on the matters addressed and to identify the most appropriate actions for each case, anticipating the various possible scenarios that may arise.

Pragmatism, conflict prevention, and attention to the concrete needs of clients form the foundation of our working philosophy. We place at the core of our professional commitment availability, operational flexibility, and timely, comprehensive communication with clients, both at the time of engagement and throughout its execution.

The Firm’s lawyers also serve as speakers or lecturers at conferences, courses, master’s programs, seminars, and round tables organized by public and private entities, particularly on topics relating to public contracts and procurement, public services, organizational models, urban planning and construction, public and private employment, administrative justice, publicly-owned companies, administrative liability, and the third sector.

To ensure the high quality standards that have always characterized our Firm, all lawyers and associates are engaged in continuous and ongoing professional development.

TRADITION

Continuing the activity of a Firm with over one hundred years of history is a challenge we face every day with a sense of responsibility and pride.

Our History

Lessona Law Firm traces its roots to the late 19th century, when Atty. Carlo Lessona (son of a magistrate and student of Prof. Mortara), Professor of Civil Procedural Law at the Universities of Siena and later Pisa, and author of the renowned treatise “Theory of Evidence in Italian Civil Judicial Law,” began practicing law in Florence (where the Court of Cassation had a section until 1923).

Prof. Paolo Grossi, legal historian and President of the Constitutional Court from February 2016 to February 2018, described Lessona Law Firm as “the convenient niche in which a seed, and certainly not the smallest, of the future law faculty thrived well,” noting that Enrico Finzi and Piero Calamandrei both studied and worked there.

The Firm’s activity was then carried on by his son, Silvio Lessona, also a University Professor of Administrative Law at the Universities of Florence and later Bologna, where he established the first Italian Advanced School of Administrative Sciences.

In 1947, Carlo, son of Silvio and grandson of the Firm’s founder, in turn began practicing law in Florence, receiving in 1990 the Sorrentino Prize, awarded annually to the leading Italian scholar in administrative law; in the same year, Atty. Carlo Lessona founded the current Professional Association which—after his passing—has continued its legal practice.

Today, Lessona Law Firm is also present in Rome, on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II (a short distance from the Council of State), Olbia (Sardinia) and in Portoferraio (Elba Island).

Our Method

For some time now, the demand for legal services has been oriented toward increasingly higher levels of specialization due to the growing complexity of regulatory frameworks, mainly caused by the proliferation of legislation and its lack of clarity.

Therefore, highly specialized legal expertise is required — going beyond the traditional distinction between civil, criminal, and administrative law — in order to address all legal issues affecting specific areas (construction, urban planning, environment, public contracts, employment with private entities and Public Administrations, regulation of public assets, etc.).

Thanks to the teamwork that characterizes its case management, Lessona Law Firm is able to combine the diverse specialized competencies of its Professionals to identify the solutions best suited to the needs of its clients.

To ensure the highest possible level of assistance, cases requiring sectoral or multidisciplinary skills are handled by teams composed of two or more lawyers from the Firm, so as to support the client’s trusted Professional with other lawyers possessing more specific sectoral expertise.

This approach stems from the shared values, goals, and objectives of the Firm’s members and is made possible by a structure with a large number of partners and associates, enabling each of them to specialize in specific branches of administrative law, labour law, civil law, and tax law.
